Notes
Provenance: Private collection Dorset, England. NOTES: Pochoir (French: “stencil”), as distinguished from ordinary stenciling, is a highly refined technique of making fine limited editions of stencil prints. It is often called hand colouring, or hand illustration. Stencil print in colours with hand-retouching, after a specially prepared gouache by De Stael. 1952/53. Signed with the signature stamp. Numbered 106 from the edition of 200. Note: No impressions were hand pencil signed - part of the edition was signature stamped as here, the others part annotated with the title and the artist's name (no signature stamp). Stencils cut professionally; edition closely supervised by De Stael. Brilliant impression with excellent fresh unrubbed colours (some stray marginal colour). On stiff slightly textured cream wove Johannot paper. Generally excellent condition throughout.
